100.5 MW Wind Power Project

100.5 MW Wind Power Project

The Orange Mamatkheda Wind Power Project is a 100.5 MW wind farm located in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. The project consists of 67 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 1.5 MW, and aims to generate clean electricity through the use of wind energy. The project has undergone an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) study in accordance with the guidelines set by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and has engaged with the local community through regular consultation. The project is expected to generate 180 GWh of clean electricity annually, which is enough to power 42,000 households and will also help mitigate 1.23 million tCO2e in carbon emissions over 7 years.

Main environmental benefits:

mitigation of 1.23 million tCO2e in carbon emissions in 7 years.

Main social benefits:

project has led to employment for 76 persons on a permanent basis.
Enhancing the quality of Education
Women Empowerment

Baumlnvest Mixed Reforestaion

Baumlnvest Mixed Reforestaion

The reforestation project of BaumInvest in Costa Rica is a recognized forest carbon offset project that provides multiple ecological and socio-economic benefits for local communities and the environment. The project, which began in 2007, has reforested 1,280ha of pastureland in the Central North of Costa Rica with mainly native tree species, resulte in planting of over one million trees. These plantations are managed as a continuous forest cover, and 25% of the total project area is managed as nature reserves.

Main environmental benefits:

The presence of 70 new species of amphibians and reptiles on the land
Contribution to the survival of the threatened tree species Dipteryx panamensis
Protection of water catchment areas and improvement in water quality

Main social benefits:

Secure, long-term employment in a rural and underdeveloped area of northern Costa Rica.
Fair working conditions, including accident and health insurance, pension coverage, personal protective equipment and continuous education and training.
Reduction in illegal logging, poaching and animal trading.

Nicaforest Reforestation Program

Nicaforest Reforestation Program

The Nicaforest Program is a pioneering initiative that aims to conserve the remaining patches of native vegetation and create additional conservation areas on the banks of rivers and other watersheds. It also works closely with local landowners to create a sustainable value-chain through a Shared Benefit Scheme. By planting teak and other valuable species for future timber production and added-value wood production, the program aims to not only increase resilience in the local municipalities but also provide a natural habitat for native animals and plants, protect and enrich the soil, save and filter water and contribute to the mitigation of the greenhouse effect.

Main environmental benefits:

Reduced deforestation and degradation.
Co2 sequestration (45.624 tCO2e sequestered as of the end of 2018, 32.460 tCO2e estimated future sequestering).
Natural Forests and Bio-diversity protected (approximately 25-30% of the farms are conservation areas).

Main social benefits:

Creating jobs - more than 200 jobs during planting periods and approximately 30 permanent jobs for forest management.
Additional income source for farmers, through Shared Benefit Agreement and access to international timber and carbon market.

20 MW Solar Project

20 MW Solar Project

The 20 MW Solar PV project, located in the Indian state of Rajasthan, harnesses the power of the sun to produce clean and renewable energy. This project has made a significant impact in reducing CO2 emissions and will continue to drive economic growth in the region through its annual generation of 35.7 GWh of clean electricity, enough to power over 8,300 households per year.

Main environmental benefits:

Generates 35.7 GWh of clean electricity annually, the equivalent to powering 8,300 households every year
Mitigates 245,000 tCO2e in carbon emissions in 7 years.

Main social benefits:

34 people were provided permanent employment opportunities, out of which 28 were hired locally

Kenya Solar Water Farm Project

Kenya Solar Water Farm Project

The GivePower project in Kenya aims to provide safe drinking water to thousands of households in the coastal regions through the use of solar-powered desalination plants. CO2balance has partnered with GivePower, a non-profit organization, to address the unsafe water problems in the country by installing the solar-powered desalination plants in Kenya. So far, three plants are operating with six more being commissioned to extend to other counties. Carbon finance for this project assists with the ongoing maintenance and operational costs to run the plants, making it more sustainable.

Main environmental benefits:

Reduced carbon emissions by using solar power to run desalination process.
reduced dependence on fossil fuels to purify water.

Main social benefits:

Access to safe and clean drinking water for up to 170,000 people.
Reduction in deaths from poor sanitation.

Qori Q’oncha Improved Cookstoves

Qori Q’oncha Improved Cookstoves

The MICROSOL initiative, "Qori Q'oncha" aims to distribute improved cookstoves in Peru, which are constructed locally and emit less greenhouse gas emissions. These stoves provide better health, cheaper and more efficient solutions to families in rural regions, they also come equipped with a chimney to vent smoke outside of the house and reduce CO2 emissions and deforestation. The program has been recognized as a best solution by UNDP and awarded by Gold Standard PoA and PCIA for meeting social and behavior needs.

Main environmental benefits:

Reduced carbon emissions by nearly two million tonnes of CO2.

Main social benefits:

Enabled 141,407 families to gain access to these technologies.
A drastic reduction in smoke exposure in 100% of families thanks to the installation of a chimney.
