Baumlnvest Mixed Reforestaion
About the project
The reforestation project of BaumInvest in Costa Rica is a recognized forest carbon offset project that provides multiple ecological and socio-economic benefits for local communities and the environment. The project, which began in 2007, has reforested 1,280ha of pastureland in the Central North of Costa Rica with mainly native tree species, resulte in planting of over one million trees. These plantations are managed as a continuous forest cover, and 25% of the total project area is managed as nature reserves.
Main Environmental Benefits:
The presence of 70 new species of amphibians and reptiles on the land
Contribution to the survival of the threatened tree species Dipteryx panamensis
Protection of water catchment areas and improvement in water quality
Main Social Benefits:
Secure, long-term employment in a rural and underdeveloped area of northern Costa Rica.
